Anirban Lahiri has moved up five places from 39 to 34 in the Official World Golf Rankings released today.
Anirban achieved his career-high ranking of 34 after bagging the Indian Open title, an event co-sanctioned by the European Tour and Asian Tour, at the Delhi Golf Club yesterday.
As a result of his latest triumph the Bangalore-based professional is currently placed second in the European Tour Race to Dubai. He also leads the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
Lahiri has been enjoying a phenomenal run in his rookie season on the European Tour having wrapped up two titles within three weeks. His maiden European Tour win at the Maybank Malaysian Open two weeks back had catapulted him from 68 to his previous best world ranking of 37. The 27-year-old subsequently slipped to 39 after a tied 21st finish at the True Thailand Classic.
Jeev Milkha Singh is the only Indian to be ranked higher than 34. Jeev had reached as high as 28 in the world rankings back in 2009.
Anirban's second European Tour win and seventh Asian Tour victory at his National Open has given him a great chance of playing his maiden US Masters this year.
SSP Chawrasia climbed from 204 to 169 in the world rankings after his runner-up finish at the Indian Open. He is now the second-highest ranked Indian in the world after Lahiri. Chawrasia is also placed third in the Asian Tour rankings.
