Brazilian striker Uilliams Silva struck twice as Shillong Lajong FC edged past Mohammedan Sporting 2-1 to register their first win at home in a thrilling eight round encounter of the I-League here today.
Uilliams scored in the 30th minute through a penalty and then the match winner in the 75th minute while Josimar scored the lone goal for the visitors in the 39th minute.
Sporting's Ozbey and Josimar were far from being dangerous in the attacking front as the team were rendered under constant pressure from Uilliams and his partners -- Tuboi, Boithang and Subash Singh.
While Glen and Matsugae were out nursing their injuries, the home team pushed the level of the game to a higher level putting the visitors on constant pressure right from the first whistle was blown.
Five corner kicks within 20 minutes of the match added pressure on the Kolkata outfit even as Ashok Singh miraculously saved Subash Singh's right footer to put Sporting defense in disarray.
Uilliams Silva's first effort was done away with even as he dribbled past at least three defenders before he lost balance and the ball was cleared off the danger zone.
The first reward came from a handball within the box in the 29th minute and Ulliams converted the penalty.
However, as the jubilant 7,500 strong crowd at the J N Stadium were cheering for their home team, a faulty back pass by Wailadmi had Tolgay Ozbey overpowered the defenders to put a forward pass to Josimar who scored to equalize minutes before the lemon break.
Returning from the break, Uilliams scored the match winner in the 75th minute with a calculated lift from the right flank.
The second goal gave the home team a renewed energy and zeal as they dominated the remaining part of the match.
A Subash Singh shot in the 83rd minute could have given them the third goal had the referee at the lines found him on an off side position.
After today's win, Lajong have 12 points in their kitty four points behind table topper Salgaogar FC and five points ahead of Sporting to be comfortably placed at sixth.
