Refuting rumours that five lakes had breached in Kancheepuram district, one of the worst affected in the floods, Tamil Nadu government today said the levels were being constantly monitored and there was no danger to public.
"Karanai, Thaiyur, Siruthavur, Kondangi and Manamadhi lakes located on the surroundings of Old Mahablipuram Road in Kancheepuram district are at safe levels," an official release said.
Public Welfare Department officials and employees are "constantly monitoring" the water levels, it said.
The statement comes in the wake of rumours on social networking sites that some lakes had breached and residents were asked to leave to safer places.
