Tamil Nadu-based private lender Lakshmi Vilas Bank said here today that it will function for two hours extra tomorrow as a tribute to the late former president A P J Abdul Kalam.
"The bank will work voluntarily for two extra hours on August 1 to pay a fitting homage to the departed leader," a statement issued jointly by the management and the unions said.
Accordingly, employees of the bank, which has a network of more than 400 branches, will work until 4 pm tomorrow.
Lakshmi Vilas Bank Managing Director Rakesh Sharma, who is reported to be in the running for taking over as MD and CEO of a state-owned bank, said the move is aimed at "showing the bank's deep respect and regard for the People's President".
Kalam, who died while delivering a talk at IIM Shillong earlier this week, used to exhort people to work hard and strive towards success.
"Thinking is the capital, enterprise is the way, hard work is the solution," Kalam had said.
