The SC/ST cell of the Vizag police today registered a case of land-grabbing in which involvement of the Naxal-turned-gangster Mohd Nayeemuddin, who was killed in an encounter with police last month, is suspected.
The complaint, received by Bheemili Police, was transferred to the SC/ ST cell today.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ST/SC cell) B Mohan Rao said a Dalit man named B Bhushanam from Ampavalli in Vizianagaram district has lodged a complaint that D Suryanarayana Varma and others did not allow him to enter his land in Kapuluppada area.
Bhusanam had purchased two plots measuring about four acres for Rs 75,000 in 1988. Varma who owns adjacent land allegedly tried to grab it, and warned Bhusanam of dire consequences if he resisted, claiming links with Nayeemuddin.
Bhushanam mustered up courage to approach the police when he heard about Nayeemuddin's death and subsequent probe by an SIT into the gangster's land-grabbing activities.
