Landlords in Noida have threatened to switch off power supply to telecom towers installed atop their premises following show cause notices issued by local authorities.
"Telecom tower landlords in NOIDA have informed the Noida Authority that landlords will be switching off electricity," a joint statement from telecom industry body COAI, TAIPA and landlord associations said today.
It also said that landlords will "deny access to the tower company representatives doing operation & maintenance of towers following several show cause notices issued by the authority".
The Noida Authority has sent letters cancelling the land lease agreements on Friday, March 20, 2015, the statement claimed.
About 45 per cent of total mobile towers installed in Noida are in residential areas, a mobile tower company's top official said.
The statement further said that the Noida tower policy is sub-judice before the Allahabad High Court and the Noida Authority should keep its new policy in abeyance till the matter is finally decided by the Court.
