Lankan delegation hands over condolence message to TN Guv

A high profile Sri Lankan delegation met Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao here today and handed over condolence messages of that nation's President, Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe over the demise of chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
The delegation, led by Deputy High Commissioner V Krishnamurthy and comprising Arumugam Thondaman, MP, Acting Chief Minister of Uva Province, Senthil Thondaman and Ceylon Workers Congress Vice-President Ganesamurthy handed over the messages to the Governor, a Raj Bhavan release said.
"I am saddened by the news of the demise of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa. She was totally dedicated to the welfare of the people and was dearly loved by her people," Sirisena said in his message.
"India loses a female politician and a truly pro-poor leader, whom people fondly called Amma," he said.
In his message, Wickremesinghe praised Jayalalithaa as a "visionary leader of our times".
"Sri Lanka mourns the loss of a stateswoman who upheld the welfare of her people and was much loved by them," he said.
"Jayalalithaa leaves behind a legacy that speaks of political acumen and leadership skills. The people and the Government of Sri Lanka join me in offering our deepest sympathies," he said.
Governor's Principal Secretary Ramesh Chand Meena and Deputy Secretary K V Muralidharan were present when the delegation handed over the condolence message to Rao.
Meanwhile, German Consul General in Chennai, Achim Fabig has also sent his condolence message on the demise of Jayalalithaa to the Governor.
