Law college students withdraw agitation temporarily

Students of Dr Ambedkar Law College here today temporarily withdrew their agitation in connection with the move to shift the college to a different location on the advice of the Madras High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul who allowed them to file an intervening application in a case filed on legal education in 2008.
An announcement to this effect was made by the students of the college this evening.
R C Paul Kangaraj, President of Madras High Court Advocates Association, assured the students that all legal help needed in the case will be rendered by the Association.
Kanagaraj also assured them that an endeavour will be made to withdraw the cases filed against the students in connection with the agitation.

The Court had yesterday asked the counsel for a petitioner, who filed a fresh plea in connection with shifting of the Law College, to ask agitating students to attend classes first.
While dismissing a PIL filed by a student for a direction to the Secretary of Law Department not to shift the college to any other location, the court had on Tuesday found fault with students for taking the law into their own hands. It had said shifting the college was a necessity as experts had said its condition was precarious and urgently needed repairs.
On February 4, students staged a series of protests, disrupting traffic in many parts. Police had later resorted to lathi-charge, injuring some of them.
