The Centre would work on a legislation for the certification of medical devices and equipment, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Y S Chowdary said today.
He was speaking after launching a Technology Research Centre for Biomedical Devices and opening e-consultation services of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) here.
"I will work for that. It is very important," Chowdary said referring to the request of SCTIMST President and former Union cabinet secretary K M Chandrasekhar for alaw to regulate health devices and equipment to ensure its quality.
Lauding the research and development work being carried out at the institute, he said the mission was in line with the objectives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make-in-India' and 'Startup India' programmes.
"We will have to ensure proper health care reaching every citizen in our country. I know it is easier said than done. It is certainly difficult, but not impossible," he added.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan unveiled three new technologies at the function.
Second generation TTK-CHITRA heart valve and vascular graft were also released at the function, titled 'Technology Conclave 2016'.
M S Valiathan, National Research Professor and first director of the institute, were among those present on the occasion.
