Lawyer to seek court's directive to Centre to bring back Geeta

Haryana-based lawyer Momin Malik today said he would seek the Punjab and Haryana High Court's directive to the central government to bring back Geeta, the deaf and mute Indian girl stuck in Pakistan, and search for her parents.
Malik, who had moved the high court over the matter, said at a press conference here that "I will also urge the court to direct the Centre to bring back Geeta and search for her parents."
The matter will come up for hearing at Punjab and Haryana High Court tomorrow.
"The court had asked how will I prove that Geeta is an Indian citizen. I will provide them Geeta's statement, Hindu Helpine's petition and Karachi court's verdict to establish her citizenship," Mallick said.

The lawyer, who is working to bring back Geeta, said, "I had gone to Pakistan to help Geeta on humanitarian ground. I filed a case under Section 552 of Pakistan's Criminal Procedure Code, which empowers the judge to compel restoration of abducted women and girls."
"It made possible to record the statement of the deaf and mute girl through sign language expert for the first time in 15 years," he added.
Passing its judgement on September 3, the Pakistani court stated Geeta can go to India only through diplomatic channels, he said.
Geeta, who has been stranded in Pakistan for the last 13 years, is currently living under the care of the Edhi Foundation charity here.
