Transgender activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi turned showstopper at Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016.
LFW, in its 16th edition, today unveiled Reliance Retails' online fashion and style destination AJIO. For its preview show, the brand brought together women achievers from different fields as showstoppers, with Laxmi being one of them.
Bollywood's original dancing star Helen walked demonstrating 'age no bar', Sunny Leone sashayed down to say 'choice no bar', funny woman Bharti Singh walked ramp effortlessly to 'size no bar,' Suman Sharma, India's first woman to fly an MIG fighter jet, walked for 'career no bar' and wrapping it up was Laxmi, who stole the show with 'gender no bar.'
"Internationally there are transgender models. I belong to ethnic transgender community. I belong to this country and inclusion beyond gender is important. I was quite happy being a part of this movement. Beauty is in beholders' eyes, body shape or gender don't matter to fashion. Beauty is beauty we are no one to judge," Laxmi told PTI.
Helen, who did a little gig on the ramp as well, said she is happy to have clothes in her size.
"For me it is something different. I walked the ramp many years ago, but at this stage in my twilight years to be able to come here and do this with youngsters, has been a wonderful experience. I am happy that I have got my size now," Helen said.
Comedy star Bharti said she is proud be the first unconventional showstopper to walk on ramp and thanked the brand for breaking the stereotype.
