today sought to embarrass Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the Kerala assembly, seizing on media reports alleging that his personal assistant had made several phone calls to a woman involved in financial cheating cases.
Deflecting the opposition's attack, Chandy said the matter was being examined by police and he believed that "no one was above the law".
Raising the issue during a debate on demands of grants in the House, CPI(M) member E P Jayarajan alleged that the personal assistant in CM's office had made as many as 20 calls to the woman, reportedly involved in financial cheating cases in Kerala and outside.
Reports in a section of the media had alleged that the woman had appropriated money by promising investors to serve as a link with governments in Kerala and other states for clinching non-conventional energy projects for them.
Jayarajan and other CPI(M) members said the issue had brought the CM's office under the shadow of suspicion and wanted the government to conduct an impartial inquiry.
Leader of the Opposition V S Achuthanandan said the government should not hush up the matter and bring the truth to light through an effective probe.
