A group of Dalit leaders in here today accused the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government of playing "vote-bank politics" by not taking any action against the Bajrang Dal activists, who allegedly attacked a Dalit family in Chikmagaluru over alleged cow slaughter.
"Siddaramaiah's government should book the culprits, the Sanghis and should not think of any politicalrepercussions, or for that matter, try to gain mileage byplaying vote-bank politics," former minister B T Lalitha Naik told reporters here.
The government should not think of political ramifications that may arise by initiating action against Bajrang Dal activists, she said.
Another Dalit leader Hari Ram also said Siddaramaiah who boasts himself as a Backward Class leader should immediately intervene.
Seven persons, including two Bajrang Dal activists, were booked on July 11 on the charge of attacking a Dalit family intheir house recently for alleged cow slaughter.
A case also was filed against the Dalit family members for "illegally" slaughtering the cow.
The Dalits were taken to the police station and later let off on bail. The accused were also set free on bail.
Replying to a question, Dalit leaders -- Srinivas and A Amar said they will be visiting Jayapura village where the incident took place and stage a protest against the state government's inaction.
