The discounted LED bulb scheme for consumers in Delhi will end on December 31.
"The discounted LED bulb scheme by EESL will end on December 31, 2015, in Delhi," state-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) today said in a statement.
According to the statement, so far, more than 10.9 lakh households have made their homes energy efficient by adopting LED bulbs under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP).
"Consumers who have not yet availed of this scheme should do so immediately," EESL said in the release.
The programme started in Delhi on June 1, under which over 43 lakh LEDs have already been distributed in a span of over 6 months.
Under the DELP scheme, consumers in Delhi can avail of up to 10 LED bulbs per domestic household on upfront payment. These technically superior LEDs are available at a discounted price of Rs 93 each (against a market price of around Rs 350).
Each LED bulb helps a consumer save anywhere between Rs 160 to Rs 400 every year and has a life expectancy of 25,000 hours, thus making the cost recovery lesser than a year.
For availing the scheme, the customer needs to provide a copy of the latest electricity bill, along with a copy of ID proof.
The bulbs are available at distribution kiosks across Delhi and the list of the same is available on www.Delp.In.
The use of LED bulbs by these consumers in Delhi is translating into a saving of Rs 61 lakh every day. These consumers have helped reduce peak load of 145 MW and curtail 1,259 tonnes of carbon dioxide daily.
