If things work out, the 32-year-old "Age of Adaline" director will replace Robert Schwentke, who exited the final film in the franchise after helming the previous two installments "Insurgent" and the upcoming "Allegiant," said The Hollywood Reporter.
According to the sources, Schwentke exited "Ascendant" because he needed a break after doing the two films back to back and wanted to spend more time with his family.
Production on the fourth and final Divergent film is scheduled to start in Atlanta in the summer.
The movie series based on best-selling novels by Veronica Roth stars Theo James, Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller.
