Accusing the BJP-led Centre of "shamelessly supporting capitalists and corporates", the protesters lamented the hike in service tax, scrapping of property tax and proposal of heavy tax rebate for capitalists.
They also termed the Union budget as "anti-labourer and anti-farmer" and bemoaned the reduction in spending on subsidy, education, health and social sectors in the budget.
The protesters demanded roll-back of petrol-diesel price hike, girdawari and proper compensation for damaged crops due to unseasonal rains and also the scrapping of alleged anti-farmer Land Acquisition Ordinance.
CPI(M) leaders Prakash Chandra and Veerbhan also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
