CPI today cautioned against disqualification of 21 AAP MLAs, appointed as Parliamentary Secretaries, in haste after the President refused assent to a bill to shield them from office of profit rule, saying the situation is "unprecedented" and needs to be examined legally first.
"The current situation is unprecedented. So, this issue needs to be examined legally and constitutionally before a decision is taken," CPI National Secretary D Raja said.
"Who knows the legality to disqualify the MLAs? None. So, the legality has to be examined first," he said when asked about the demand for disqualification of the MLAs.
Earlier in the day, BJP and Congress insisted that the MLAs concerned were not above law and demanded their immediate disqualification.
