Forest officials said the poachers had killed the leopard in Kokrajhar of Assam.
Acting on a tip off, the officials posed as buyers and caught the nine smugglers at Barobisha area in the Dooars region of the district.
The arrested persons had links with an international smuggling racket, the officials said.
A four-wheeler used by the accused was also seized.
