Lifting of powercut or fluctuations in the price of diesel would not impact much in the sales of generator sets since it has become a backup utility for every household or industry in the country, a major genset and engine manufacturers, said today.
Replying to a question on the impact of sales on gensets in Tamil Nadu in view of the state government lifting power cuts, General Manager of Cooper Corporation Private Ltd., Rajesh S Walke, told reporters here that power cut was one of the drivers for purchasing gensets.
However, of late, the sector was shifting from generating of power to standby for power, including in household, since every activity like lighting, kitchen utensils and washing machines were functioned using cost-effective generators, Walke said.
The company, manufacturing and selling 10 KVA and 200 KVA gensets, has a 10 per cent market share in the country and growing at 40 per cent for the last two years, particularly southern parts, P Aditya Sunder, Regional Head (South), said.
The market share of the company, which gave the country the first diesel engine way back in 1934, was 25 to 30 per cent in Tamil Nadu, he said.
The company plans to touch 100 sales and service points by the turn of the year from the present 65.
Cooper plans to increase the capacity of its castings manufacturing unit from 4,000 tonnes to 8,000 tonnes per month shortly, Walke said.
