Lioness found dead inside well

A lioness was found dead on Monday inside a well located on a farmland in Shanavankiya village in the Gir east division in Gujarat, a senior forest official said.

The lioness appeared to be in the age group of five to nine years, he said, adding that it might have fallen into the open well while chasing a prey.

The postmortem report identified drowning as the cause behind the death of the lioness.

"It seemed the lioness had tried to come out of the 20-feet deep well, as some of its body parts were bleeding," he said.
