Local court convicts man in connection with ganja seizure

A local court convicted a 35-year-old man in connection with seizure of ganja, a Prohibition and Excise official said here today.
On February 2 this year, Hyderabad Prohibition and Excise Department seized 35 kg of ganja from one Phatan Ali Khan, a resident of the Borabanda area here, Prohibition and Excise Inspector S Sreenivas said.
After completion of trial, the MSJ Court at Nampally pronounced its judgement today and convicted Phatan Ali Khan under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the official said.
The court awarded him punishment of ten years simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh, the official said.

Khan was arrested after the court order and taken to Cherlapally Central Prison here, the official said.
