Locals blocked tracks for one- and-half hours in the Sealdah-Naihati section of Eastern Railway on Tuesday, after an elderly man was run over and killed near Belghoria station, an official said.
Railway lines between Belghoria and Dumdum stations were obstructed from 12 noon to 1.36 pm, before the agitators were persuaded to lift the blockade, he said.
The man, who is yet to be identified, was run over when he was probably crossing the tracks, the official said.
A number of suburban EMU trains in the section were delayed owing to the blockade, he added.
