Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said on Thursday that people should look out for 4 'Cs'--capacity, character, calibre and conduct--while electing their representatives.

People should be careful in electing their representatives based on the 4 "Cs", Naidu reiterated.

But, some try to dominate using caste, community, cash and criminality, he rued.

There is need to improve quality in public life also, according to Naidu.

Speaking at an event organised by the Quality Circle Forum of India, Hyderabad chapter, Naidu also said there need not be any panic over the talk of economic slowdown in the country as its economic foundations were strong.

The Vice President felt that a 'Code of Professional Social Responsibility' on the lines of Corporate Social Responsibility should be adopted by various professions, including doctors, lawyers, chartered accountants and others to take up specially-focused activities to help the marginalised and downtrodden sections of society.

He called for a re-orientation of the educational system, saying physical training, moral science and gardening used to be part of school curriculum earlier.

He said the children should be made aware of the countrys history.

Recalling his visit to Baltic countries, including Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, he said he was taken to a National Museum for History which depicted the entire history of the country.

Stressing the importance of conservation of environment and water, he said such topics should be part of the education curriculum.

Highlighting the need to work for the countrys unity and integrity, safety and security, Naidu said the country was one, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari irrespective of caste, creed, religion.

Emphasising the importance of quality in production, he said quality would spur growth and strengthen the economy.

Responding to former Tamil Nadu Governor PS Ramamohan Rao, who spoke earlier, he said he would speak to the Human Resource Development Minister about including quality concepts in schools and colleges.
