The inquiry will be conducted by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Phek, Kuko Mero, a government notification said.
The ADC will inquire the causes and the source of firing which led to the death of two students and injury to one and also the person(s) responsible for the firing.
The magisterial inquiry will also look into whether the incident could have been avoided and submit the report to the state government within 15 days.
The two students were killed in cross firing between Assam Rifles and suspected NSCN(K) militants at Phor village in Phek district on July 16 when the para-military personnel were bringing bodies of two NSCN(K) militants from an encounter spot at Avangkhu.
