Magisterial probe into Vicky Gounder, Prema Lahoria's killing

Magisterial probe into the death of most-wanted gangster Vicky Gounder and 2016 Nabha jail break mastermind Prema Lahoria in an encounter with Punjab Police near a village in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district on Friday, began today, officials said.
Gounder and Lahoria were killed, while another notorious criminal Sawinder Singh was injured in the encounter near Pakki village in Rajasthan -- just 50 metres from Punjab border. Singh died a few days later while undergoing treatment.
Additional Superintendent of police Surendra Singh Rathore said, "Magisterial inquiry is being conducted to check whether Supreme Court guidelines for police encounter were followed."
"We visited the encounter spot and recorded statements of residents. Punjab policemen too have been summoned to record their statements," he said.

He said Lakhwinder Singh Lakha, who was arrested during the encounter, was produced before a court and weapons used in the encounters were seized and sent for forensic examination.
Gounder was among the six prisoners, including Harminder Singh Mintoo and Kashmir Singh, both terrorists, and gangsters Aman Dhothian, Vicky Gounder, Gurpreet Sekhon and Neeta Deol, who were freed by armed men from the high-security Nabha Jail in November 2016.
Gounder was also wanted by Rajasthan police in multiple cases and a reward of Rs 50,000 was announced for his arrest, a police official said.
