Maha CM writes to Modi on power supply scenario in the state

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to resolve the ongoing electricity crisis in his state.
Chavan in a letter to the Prime Minister said that due to non-availability of fuel and legal challenges due to change in law, private power generators supplying electricity to the state have expressed inability to continue with the operation leading to large scale load shedding in Maharashtra.
He said that the problem aggravated during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi in the state.
The chief minister said that the state government has been trying to resolve this problem for the past couple of years and has also approached Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal for the same.

He said that during his meeting with the Power Minister, last month, it was felt that due to the magnitude of the problem and its ramification, the matter needs to be resolved at the highest level.
Chavan added that similar problem is being faced by four other states and requires consultation from the central government.

However, he did not name those states.
Chavan requested the Prime Minister to hold a meeting of chief ministers of five states to find an early solution to the problem.
Earlier this week, Goyal said that Maharashtra made no request for allocation of additional electricity. He said that there was no request pending with the central government from Maharashtra.
