The day started with Leader of Opposition Dhananjay Munde demanding that the government immediately announce a loan waiver for farmers and a discussion on the same under Rule 289.
"It is shameful that farmers are now requesting the government to let them commit suicide. The situation cannot get any worse than this. Under such circumstances, we demand that all other works be kept aside and the government immediately announce a loan waiver for farmers and hold a discussion on this issue," Munde said.
"There are about 70 per cent farmers who are not getting fresh loans because their previous debt is pending. There have been no rains since 20 days and thus farmers cannot sow fresh seeds," he said.
A commotion ensued with the Opposition members shouting slogans against the government in the Well of the House with display of placards following which Chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar adjourned the House for 10 minutes.
On resumption, Nimbalkar then asked for various Bills to be tabled, during which the Opposition continued its drama.
The Leader of Opposition said that injustice is being done and Opposition voices are being muzzled despite they having a majority in the Upper House.
