The Maharashtra Legislative Council today unanimously adopted a resolution for the formation of Joint Parliamentary Committee for development of Marathi language.
The resolution was tabled by Maharashtra Education and Culture minister Vinod Tawde and unanimously passed by the Council.
The Minister said the committee was earlier formed on December 20, 2011, but it was not fully functional.
After that, the election was announced and hence the committee was dissolved, he said.
"There will be 15 members in this committee - 11 MLAs and 4 members from the Council. They will look after the use of Marathi language in all government and semi-government offices," Tawde added.
Following the resolution, a 'Marathi Bhasha (language) Committee' will come into existence shortly.
