In another major relief for the common people feeling the pinch post demonetisation of high value notes, the Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for payment of bills and dues in scrapped banknotes until midnight of November 14.
"Government of India accepts government of Maharashtra's request to extend the date for allowing acceptance of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes for payment of electricity bill, water bill, property tax or any kind of government dues till November 14 midnight to help citizens," the Chief Minister's Office said in a statement tonight.
The government had yesterday allowed citizens to use the banned denominations toward payment of any kind of their dues after the Central government accepted state's request in this regard, the deadline for which was to end midnight tonight.
Now, with the extended deadline, people can continue paying their bills and arrears till Monday midnight.
Meanwhile, the state government said exemption would also include payment of court fees.
At the consumer cooperative stores, exemptions for Rs 500 and 1,000 notes would be granted but buyers would have to produce ID proof.
No advance payment of utility bills would be allowed. Also, the exemption would be granted only to individuals/ households.
