The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today dubbed as "farce" state Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar's decision to seek report on all purchases made under the rate contract system in the last 10 years from government departments.
Addressing a press conference, MPCC spokesman Sachin Sawant said, "If the alleged irregularities in the Congress-NCP rule are being probed now, doesn't it show poorly on the BJP as it could not find any wrongdoing so far?"
He said the Women and Child Welfare minister Pankaja Munde should not jump to conclusions too early over lab reports that chikki (sweet candy) distributed to students in Ahmednagar schools being "unadulterated".
"Reports from Aurangabad, Nandurbar and Nagpur are yet to come, in which insects and blade were found," he said, adding, that the Congress plans to write to the FDA to probe the quality of chikki.
Munde is accused of awarding contracts worth Rs 206 crore for procurement of goods for state-run schools without inviting tenders.
