Maharashtra Government has planned to set up a children's museum and auditorium on the Marine Drive here.
Speaking on the occasion of 124th birth anniversary of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, celebrated as Children's Day, Minister for School Education Rajendra Darda yesterday said the state government has sought the Governor's intervention in securing permissions from various authorities to make the museum a reality.
Minister of State for Education, Fauzia Khan said the education department has drafted its child development policy which would soon be sent for approval of the state Cabinet.
Also speaking on the occasion, Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan said it is important that society provides children the right to safe upbringing.
It is the collective responsibility of everyone in the society to ensure that children grow up in a free, safe and secure environment and do not face exploitation of any kind, the Governor said.
He asked children to take interest in sports and games and to win medals for the country in national and international sporting events. He appealed to the children to respect parents and elders, to stay away from addictions and to serve the nation.
Over 300 children from various schools roller-skated to the Raj Bhavan here from Bal Bhavan at Churni Road, a distance of 3 kms, to participate in the programme.
