"Rs 1,350 crore have been sanctioned under the 12th Five Year plan for airport upgradation and construction of new ones. Maharashtra has 22 existing airports, out of which upgradation would be done at Kolhapur, Solapur, Amravati and Karad," officials said.
Similarly, 16 new ones have been planned at places including Chandrapur, Beed and Gadchiroli, they added.
According to the officials, the plan is to have all districts in the state connected with air link.
"Meanwhile, work on airport at Sindhudurg is in progress, while a new airport at Pune will come up near Khed in Rajgurunagar. The site is yet to be finalised. The current airport at Lohegaon belongs to the Air Force," officials added.
