Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao today called for a coordinated response from various state departments and convergence of different schemes to tackle the growing cases of malnutrition in Mokhada and other places in Palghar district.
He asked the ministers to make a comprehensive plan that would include long term as well as short term measures to tackle malnutrition in the state, a Raj Bhavan spokesperson said.
Addressing a meeting of ministers and senior government officials at Raj Bhavan, convened to discuss malnutrition in Mokhada tehsil, Rao said the government must reach out to every single child suffering from malnutrition.
Minister for Women and Child Welfare Pankaja Munde told the Governor that a meeting of all concerned ministers, secretaries and collectors and CEOs of tribal districts in Maharashtra will be convened on September 20 and all three ministers would jointly visit Mokhada to assess the situation.
A comprehensive plan would be prepared to tackle malnutrition and after obtaining the approval of the Chief Minister, the same would be submitted to the Governor, she said.
Minister for Public Health Deepak Sawant said malnutrition in Mokhada was a very complex issue involving various factors, including discontinuation of the central scheme of village and Child Development Centres, large scale migration of tribals for employment, large number of vacancies of the post of doctors and convergence of schemes of various departments.
Sawant told the Governor that he had asked all private hospitals to send their teams of doctors and pediatricians to Mokhada.
