One person was Monday injured in a blast at a solid waste disposal unit at Taloja in neighbouring Navi Mumbai.
According to police, the incident took place at 8:15 am in the compound of a Mumbai-based waste management company at MIDC in Taloja.
The supervisor of the company witnessed smoke bellowing out of a chemical drum in the unit and directed it to be moved to an open space, an official said.
Excavator driver Santosh Patil (42) was injured when the drum exploded while it was being lifted into the machine's bucket, he added.
The impact of the explosion was such that the excavator tipped, the official said, adding that a probe into the incident was currently underway.
