Maharashtra MLC and former MP Haribhau Rathod today demanded that Denotified Tribes be removed from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) list and a separate category be created for them with a grant of 7 per cent reservation.
"What we want is creation of a separate class, Scheduled Denotified Tribes (SDNT), for our community and 7 per cent reservation," Rathod, who is the National President of the Rashtriya Vimukta Ghumantu Mahasangh, said at a press conference here.
He said Home Minister Rajnath Singh was in agreement with him when he had met the latter recently and pressed for the demand.
A mega rally would be organised at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on February 28, 2016 to press for the demand, he added.
Presently, Denotified Tribes are a part of the OBC category.
