Appealing the scientist community to use science and technology to find solutions to problems plaguing the state's farm sector, Maharashtra Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya today said it can go a long way in helping make the state drought-free and change conventional modes of farming.
Khshatriya was speaking at a symposium on "Science and Technology for Exclusive Development" on the last day of the Indian Science Congress here.
"Maharashtra is fast developing in industrial, farming and town planning sectors. It is only for the last three years that crops have been destroyed on a large scale due to drought and unseasonal rains. This has made the financial situation of the state very difficult," Khshatriya said.
"The state has been quick to help farmers...We need to develop a technology where we can predict any natural calamity that may affect the crops. I appeal to scientists to come forward and help the state develop this technology," Khshatriya said.
He also said that the state government had taken a serious view of malnutrition in the tribal areas. "I appeal scientists to conduct further research and help the state government beat malnutrition problems," he said.
