A pilot project proposed by National Rally for Rivers, a campaign by the Isha Foundation here, to rejuvenate Waghari river in Maharashtra has received the state cabinet nod and Rs 415 crore alloted for it, the foundation said Thursday, hailing it as a landmark step.

Maharashtra cabinet nod to @rallyforrivers Waghari revitalisation project is a landmark step which will create a model & an example for the nation that ecology & economy can indeed work together," founder of the Isha Foundation Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev tweeted.

The Maharashtra cabinet had on March 5 approved the pilot project in Yavatmal and the agriculture department had earmarked Rs 415 crore for project implementation, a release from the foundation said separately.

The approval also includes formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle for the project, which will have representation from members of Rally for Rivers and other technical experts, it said.

A team from the initiative had made a detailed presentation to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Forest Minister Sudhir Munghantiwar in August last year in Mumbai followed by submission of a detailed project report in November, it said.

Similar pilot projects would be implemented in river basins in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Punjab and Gujarat, Vasudev had said last year.
