"Pune has a rich history of research and innovation and over the years, it has emerged as the engineering capital of our country. We strongly believe the city can contribute significantly to the future growth of the electronics and semiconductor sector in India," MIDC CEO Bhushan Gagrani said in a statement.
The India Electronics and Semiconductor Association has prepared a project report for the proposed cluster in Pune, in association with Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA).
"Taking cues from the automotive sector, we envisioned Pune as the hub for engineering, design, innovation and manufacturing in the ESDM space. We are thrilled with our ongoing association with IESA for the brownfield EMC project and with their strategic inputs," MCCIA Director General Director General said.
"The cluster will be located in Pimpri Industrial Area, spread over 27,000 square feet and is estimated to have an investment of Rs 70.89 crore," it added.
The cluster will encompass common facilities for production support services like designing centre, surface mount technology line, environment Lab, test and measurement lab, rapid prototyping and tool room.
"Establishment of the EMC and incubation facility is a visionary step and we appreciate the government of Maharashtra, MIDC and MCCIA for their commitment," IESA Chairman Ashok Chandak said.
