Accusing the Maharashtra government of misleading the Maratha community over reservations, the state unit of BJP today urged the government to take a decision in this regard soon.
"Reservation should be given in jobs and education (to Marathas). Political reservation should be excluded," Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra legislative council Vinod Tawde told reporters today.
He accused the government of trying to mislead people of the community by forming a committee on the issue and urged it to take a decision soon.
"To fool people from the Maratha community, the government has formed the committee. They should sincerely express their stand on reservations," he said.
If the state government is sincere, it should give reservations to the Maratha community, he said.
Tawde, along with city BJP chief and senior party leaders, met Congress leader Narayan Rane who is also chairman of the committee formed by the Maharashtra government, to take a decision on reservation for the Maratha community.
Maratha community is seeking inclusion in the "Other Backward Classes" (OBC) for purpose of reservations in education and jobs.
Tawde also alleged that some cabinet ministers and ministers of state do not attend the meeting chaired by Rane.
