The Maharashtra government today told the Legislative Council it will everything possible to facilitate the clearance of dues and absorption of 1,400 employees of troubled private ground handler Cambata Aviation.
Minister for Labour and Skill Development Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar gave the assurance when members raised the issue in the Upper House during the Question Hour.
MLCs Kiran Pawaskar, Hemant Takle, Jayant Patil, Bhai Jagtap and others raised the issue of 2,100 distressed employees of Cambata Aviation.
They sought to know the status of pending dues and the issue of absorption of 1,400 of the company's staffers into its principal employer, GVK.
Replying to the queries, Patil Nilangekar said the issue falls under the Centre's purview but the the state government had initiated meetings with all stakeholders to facilitate clearance of dues of these employees.
"The government has also attached the properties of Cambata Aviation in Mumbai to facilitate the clearance of dues. Similarly, we have told the Central government that injustice has been done to the distressed employees."
Besides, the responsibility of these employees has fixed on the principal employer, GVK, the minister said.
"The government will do everything possible to facilitate the clearance of dues and absorption of 1,400 employees of Cambata Aviation," he said.
The private ground handler ceased operations in Mumbai and Delhi several months ago, leaving scores of employees in the lurch. Salaries of Cambata Aviation employees have been pending since February last year.
