The Maharashtra government will start 13 'international schools' with specialised curriculum from June this year, and a total of 100 such schools will be started by the next academic year, Education Minister Vinod Tawde said today.
The government has formed the Maharashtra International Education Board (MIEB) for this purpose, he told reporters here.
The MIEB will be an autonomous body which will decide the curriculum and conduct examinations, he said.
"The government intends to provide an international- quality education and hence decided to start upto 100 international schools," he said.
The medium of instruction at the 13 schools that will start this year will be Marathi, and schools with other regional languages as the medium of instruction will be started later, he said.
Seventy teachers have been selected to teach at the 13 schools, and they would undergo a rigorous 22-day training, Tawde said.
