Maharashtra government today decided to amend the Maharashtra Police Act of 1951 for decentralisation of power to transfer.
Transfers of officers till the rank of police inspector will now be done by the 'district police establishment board', which would be headed by the district police superintendent.
Additional district superintendent of police and deputy superintendent (headquarters) will be members of the board.
Further, the number of transfers every year would be capped at one third of the total workforce in state police.
In another decision, the gratuity limit for government and semi-government employees who retired or died between January 1, 2006, to August 31, 2009, has been increased to Rs seven lakh.
