Maharashtra government has decided to supply 30,000 Point of Sale (PoS) machines to its 'Apale Sarkar' (Your Government') centres, mostly in rural areas, to support digital transactions and help the rural economy.
Apale Sarkar centres are already functioning in some areas, but these new centres with PoS machines will start functioning from December 1.
The decision was taken at the instruction of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, stated an official communication by the state Chief Secretary Swadhin Kshatriya.
Apale Sarkar centres with PoS machines will function as digital banks, Kshatriya said.
The government has given a list of registered distributors of fertilisers, seed suppliers and pesticide vendors to Indian Bank Association and the State Bank of India officials. The farmers will have to submit their debit slip from bank to Apale Sarkar centre to transfer the money to vendor's account and make purchases, the release said.
The banks would be supplying the PoS machines.
The decision was communicated after a review meeting through video conference with district collectors and municipal commissioners across the state.
There will be 10,000 such centres where digital banking facility will be provided to the farmers and other needy persons.
There are 3,156 government centres where PoS machines are already available. The bank-correspondents will also get some bonus in the coming days, Kshatriya said.
The collectors were asked to undertake promotion of use of RuPay cards which would benefit the farmers who had already received these cards, Kshatriya said.
