"The westerly disturbances have become prominent in North India followed by northerly winds, which will bring down the temperature across coastal and central Maharashtra further," K S Hosalikar, deputy director general (western region) IMD, Mumbai said.
"The systems developed over the Caspian Sea have brought more moisture over Afghanistan, South Pakistan and Central parts of India. The phenomenon known as 'westerly disturbances' would bring some showers and snowfall in northern India and mountains respectively," he said.
As the winds are blowing from north to south, the coastal and central Maharashtra would see a dip in maximum and minimum temperatures in the next 48 hours along with the morning of the Republic Day, Hosalikar added.
These are typical weather conditions and there is nothing to worry about it, he added.
"In Mumbai, the maximum temperature came down from 32 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius as recorded at 5 pm today. Similar trend will be witnessed across Maharashtra, where maximum and minimum temperature will see a dip," Hosalikar said.
