Makra violence:Court directs suspension of IO, pulls up police

Pulling up the police, a local court today directed that the investigating officer in Makra violence case be suspended and a station incharge removed after police admitted that it had mistakenly claimed that an accused was arrested "from his house" when he was already in custody in another case.
"An officer not below the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police be appointed to enquire into the incident," Chief Judicial Magistrate Indranil Chatterjee said adding that "the court would draw the attention of Calcutta High Court in this regard".
The court directed Superintendent of Police Alok Rajoria to suspend investigating officer Dhrubajyoti Datta and immediately remove office in-charge (OC) Parui police station Kartik Mohan Ghosh from his post.

The court yesterday summoned the SP, Parui police station officer in-charge and the investigating officer of case number 155 and case number 152 in connection with the arrest of Ali Jinna.
Jinna is accused of involvement in Trinamool-BJP turf war at Makra village which had claimed three lives on Monday.
DSP Samit Chatterjee, who represented the SP, also submitted before the court that it was a mistake on the part of the policemen.

"It is overall very unfortunate not only for the accused but also for the court," the judge said.
Jinna was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the Makra violence and was produced before the court, which remanded him to five days police custody on Wednesday.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Kuntal Chatterjee said the same person was shown as arrested yesterday in another case relating to Makra violence and according to the investigating officer, was arrested from his house.
The CJM questioned the officers how Jinna, who was in police custody since Wednesday, could be arrested from his house yesterday.
