Malaysian PM greets ethnic Tamils on Pongal

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak today said his government is committed to bring positive changes to a larger section of the minority ethnic Indian community in the country.
Greeting ethnic Indians, a majority of whom are Tamils, on the occasion of Pongal, Najib said his government will multiply its efforts to bring changes to the community which comprises eight per cent of the country's population.
"As a new day begins tomorrow, our Indian brothers and sisters will welcome the arrival of the auspicious month of 'Thai' in the Indian calendar. This occasion will be marked with the 'Pongal' festival which celebrates the fresh harvest and the bounty of nature," Najib said in his message.

"As you chart your destination towards success and prosperity based on this hope, I wish to reiterate that the government remains steadfast in continuing its efforts to transform the Indian community and will multiply our efforts to bring changes to a larger section of the community," he said.
He expressed confidence that the government would be able to achieve remarkable outcomes and brighten the life of those who are in need with the continued 'Nambikei' (Tamil for trust) between the government and the community.
