Pacer Lasith Malinga is to return from the World T20 due to injury, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced today.
The T20 pool players are to figure in a practice match at the Premadasa Stadium this evening for the selectors to pick a suitable replacement, SLC added.
Malinga made a lone trip to India skipping the warm up games against New Zealand and Pakistan after he was named in the 15-man squad.
He captained Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh but played only in the opening game.
The new SLC administration compelled Malinga to resign from captaincy and play, injury permitting.
Angelo Mathews took over the mantle of leadership.
