"Deeply saddened at the passing of legendary singer Banashree Sengupta. My condolences to her family and fans," Banerjee tweeted.
Sengupta, who was suffering from lung-related ailments passed away this morning, hospital sources said.
She was 71.
According to government sources, Sengupta's body was kept at the Rabindra Sadan for her fans to pay their last homage.
The Chief Minister is likely to visit the Rabindra Sadan, the sources said.
Sengupta's body will then be taken to her residence in south Kolkata and the last rites will be performed at Keoratala crematorium.
