West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday felicitated this year's toppers of examinations conducted by the state boards besides ICSE, CBSE and ISC and described them as assets of the state.

Besides congratulating the students, she lauded their parents and teachers who worked hard to create "such gems".

"Congratulations to all of you.... Your knowledge, intelligence and ambition for something great have led you here. You are the assets of Bengal," Banerjee said at the function held in the Netaji Indoor Stadium here.

"Some of you will become doctors, engineers, professors and scientists. I will also urge you to join the civil services, so that you can serve the people. We have set up a new IAS training institute," the chief minister said.

All the opportunities - from fashion technology to information technology - are now available in the state, she said and asked the students to utilise them to glorify the state of Bengal.

Banerjee also talked about her government's achievements in the education sector, which, she said, will help the students perform better in future.

"I strongly believe that the students from Bengal are the best. They are working everywhere around the world," Banerjee said.

The chief minister also gave away prizes and citations to the students for their outstanding performance.
