Inaugurating the year-long celebration of the Calcutta University Institute, Banerjee explained how it played a significant role during the Bengal Renaissance and freedom movement.
"History repeats itself. We should not forget our past. Rather we should be proud of our glorious past, which reminds us of the memories of many intellectuals and eminent personalities during Renaissance in Bengal," she said.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated the renovated Calcutta University Institute Hall and its Library, while donating Rs 25 lakh from the MPLAD fund of local MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay to set up an archive.
A host of her cabinet colleagues and eminent persons including former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly graced the occasion.
